According to a report by Leadership on Monday, November 10, 2025, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has stated that many Nigerian politicians only talk about religion when they want to win elections.
He said once the elections are over, the same politicians forget about religion and focus on sharing positions and resources.
The governor made the statement while addressing a gathering in Lafia.
He warned citizens not to be deceived by leaders who use religion as a tool to gain support.
According to him, such politicians only bring up religious issues to divide people and distract them from real problems.
Governor Sule explained that during campaigns, some leaders pretend to defend the interest of a particular religion.
But when it comes to sharing money or appointments, religion is no longer part of the discussion.
He said this shows that their concern is not about faith but about personal gain and power.
He urged the people of Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole to reject such tactics.
The governor said citizens should not allow themselves to be used or misled by selfish politicians.
Instead, he called on everyone to focus on peace, unity, and development.
Governor Sule stressed that his administration would not be distracted by religious or ethnic divisions.
He said Nasarawa State has made a deliberate choice to welcome all people, regardless of their faith or background.
According to him, leadership should be about service to everyone, not about using religion to create enemies.
“It is only when we are interested in election that is when we introduce religion. Don’t be misled. Leave politicians alone. When we are sharing money, we don’t discuss religion. When they are sharing other things, they don’t discuss religion. We only discuss religion when we want votes,” he said. Read Original
