The city of Nelspruit in the province of Mpumalanga – A 53-year-old proprietor of a security agency is facing charges related to the alleged sale of firearms licensed to his company to another security service. The suspect subsequently lied to the authorities about the theft of these firearms. An extensive investigation into the alleged fraudulent activities led to the businessman’s arrest, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
His identity has not been revealed yet. The suspect, according to authorities, had sold other guns to a different security firm in an illegal manner before he or she falsely reported the weapons stolen to the police. After police found inconsistencies in the suspect’s claim, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a spokesman for the South African Police Service, said that the suspect’s behavior was investigated.

Investigators found proof that the accused had sold the guns to another security firm, despite his claim that they had been stolen, according to Mdhluli. Because security firms are obligated to adhere to stringent gun control laws, Mdhluli stressed that these acts imperilled public safety. A severe infraction that undermines gun control legislation and law enforcement efforts is selling firearms unlawfully and then faking a theft report, he added.
Defeating the ends of justice, selling firearms illegally, and perjury are the charges against the suspect. Prosecutors will likely ask for a harsh sentence in light of the gravity of the crime when he appears before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon. The security firm that bought the guns is also under investigation by the authorities, who want to know if they were complicit in the illicit sale.
“Additional arrests may be made if any misconduct is uncovered,” the South African Police Service (SAPS) announced. The police have issued a strong warning to security businesses, stating that they would not tolerate any form of illicit trafficking and that they must comply with the Firearms Control Act. At the same time, the case is still under investigation.
