African Democratic Congress gubernatorial candidate John Nwosu has declared that the Anambra election was not free and fair, characterizing it as a business transaction involving vote purchasing. He rejected suggestions that APGA’s victory across all local government areas, including opposition candidates’ home territories, demonstrated legitimate electoral dominance or popular support.
Speaking on Channels Television, Nwosu revealed that he personally witnessed law enforcement agencies observing former APGA treasurer in his ward operating a notebook system where voters wrote their names before proceeding to collect payments. He emphasized his insider knowledge, having been a Board of Trustees member of APGA since 2014, which gives him intimate understanding of their operational methods.
According to Nwosu, approximately 99% of people who voted for APGA, APC, and other parties collected money ranging from 3,000 naira to 20,000 naira. He called on federal government and electoral agencies to stop sweeping vote buying under the carpet, criticizing media analysts in Lagos making pronouncements without understanding ground realities in Anambra State.
John Nwosu said: “Well, I disagree the election wasn’t free and fair. It is a business of vote buying. If you recall, I was physically there with some of the law enforcement agencies who saw, as a matter of fact, in my word, one of the pulling booths. We have the former treasurer of Apuga. If you recall, I was a B member of Apuga as far back as 2014. So, I know how they operate. I one of the former treasurer of Apuga holding a a notebook where if you before you vote you write your name then you go you go and meet somebody in the house and collect money. So an amra state election is not fair. 99% of the people that voted Apoga and APC and other parties collected money ranging from 3,000 naira to 20,000.” Read Original
