Residents Block Major Road, Protest Banditry in Kwara

Residents of Eleyin in Isanlu-Isin, Isin Local Government Area, on Saturday blocked the main road to protest worsening insecurity after gunmen suspected to be terrorists abducted members of several families in Kwara South.

The demonstrators, mounted barricades and prevented all vehicles from passing, insisting that the blockade would remain until government authorities take action to free the captives and restore safety in the area.

Sources said the attackers invaded the Eleyin community and kidnapped seven people, three wives, their husbands, and three children.

It is understood that despite a ransom payment of N20 million, the victims have not been released. Protesters further alleged that some of those who delivered the ransom were also seized by the abductors.

Other residents recounted that three children had been abducted since Wednesday, heightening tension and fear across communities in Isin Local Government Area.

Community leaders and protesters alike called on the federal and state governments to intervene urgently by deploying adequate security resources to the area.

“The kidnappers took seven people in our community — three wives, their husbands and three children — and they are yet to be released,” a community leader said. “Those who went to deliver the ransom of N20 million have also been held hostage.”

Another protester lamented the abduction of children earlier in the week and warned that residents would not remain passive if the government failed to act. “We are calling on the government to come to our rescue. We appeal to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Tinubu to intervene and assist us. If the government fails to come to our aid, we will use all available means to secure ourselves,” he said.
