Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has stated that most Guinness World Records are of little value to human civilisation, just as he urged Nigerians to strive for the Nobel Prize.
In a Facebook post, he advised Nigerians pursuing Guinness World Records that such efforts sometimes make the country look unserious.
He advised them to contribute the same financial effort invested in attaining Guinness World Records toward research and development.

Omokri wrote, “This year, so many Nigerians set a number of Guinness World Records, but as the Nobel Prizes are awarded, Nigeria and indeed Africa are nowhere to be found.
“Nigerians are some of the most intellectually gifted people on the planet. We just have to direct our brilliance towards something meaningful.
“Perhaps in 2026, instead of aiming for these Guinness World Records, we, and this includes myself, as a people, can focus our intellectual and physical efforts on something more worthwhile to human existence and progress, such as the Nobel Prize.
“One Nobel Award is worth more than one million Guinness World Records. And some of these records are quite useless to human civilisation. In fact, they sometimes make us look like an unserious country. Especially when you consider the huge financial and physical costs that go into some of them, when we do not give the same efforts towards research and development.
“The Nobel Prize is within reach. What we just need is a national vision that challenges our people.
“I congratulate all those who have won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Literature, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and other academic and intellectual categories. Well done.
“When we have a vision, as a nation, God will grant us provision as a people.
“May God help us as a nation to focus our time and energies on worthwhile ventures rather than vanities.”
