The Nigerian media community is in deep mourning following the tragic deaths of two respected broadcasters: Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu of ARISE News Channel and Kayode Ogunleke of Adamimogo Ekitikete 107.7 FM, Ido-Ekiti.
Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a prominent news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News Channel, was tragically killed during an armed robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday.
Fondly known as “Sommie” by her colleagues, the 29-year-old journalist was celebrated for her professionalism, intelligence, and warm on-screen presence.

In a statement released by ARISE News, the station described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family” whose voice “engaged and connected with our viewers.”
The statement continued, “Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory.”
Born on December 26, 1995, and trained as a lawyer, Maduagwu transitioned into journalism, where she quickly became a familiar and trusted face on Nigerian television.
The Nigeria Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, while ARISE News has called for a “speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”
The management and staff of ARISE News have extended their heartfelt condolences to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones.
In a separate development, the management of Adamimogo Communications Limited also confirmed the death of one of its popular presenters, Kayode Ogunleke, known to many listeners as “Kbaba.” Ogunleke was a key voice at Adamimogo Ekitikete 107.7 FM, Ido-Ekiti.
The news was announced in a statement issued Monday evening by the station’s Chief Operating Officer, Babatunde Bamigboye Omo Edema.
“It is with deep sadness that the Management and Staff of Adamimogo Communications Limited announce the passing of our dear colleague and presenter at Adamimogo 107.7FM, Ido-Ekiti, Kayode Ogunleke, fondly known to many as Kbaba,” the statement read.
“Kbaba was a warm, open-minded, and gifted broadcaster whose passion for his craft touched both colleagues and listeners alike. His sudden passing has left us all in shock, and we are deeply pained by this great loss.
“At this difficult time, our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. We pray that the Almighty grants him eternal rest and comforts his loved ones with strength and peace.
“As we mourn, we kindly ask that the family’s privacy be respected to allow them space to grieve and heal.”
