The Niger Delta Environmental Justice Coalition has commended Tantita Security Services Limited for its role in reducing crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

The commendation follows a report by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), which showed that daily crude oil losses dropped to 9,600 barrels per day (bpd) as of July 2025 — the lowest level in 16 years.

In a statement issued in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, Abalagha Adawari, the coalition’s spokesman, said Tantita operatives have shown bravery and dedication in protecting vital oil pipelines despite threats to their lives.

“The personnel of Tantita Security Services have risked their lives to combat notorious oil bunkers in the Niger Delta,” Adawari said.

“The NUPRC report is a testament to their relentless efforts in reducing crude oil theft to its lowest level since 2009.”

The commission said crude oil losses from theft and metering errors fell to 9,600 bpd between January and July 2025, amounting to 2.04 million barrels during the period. This represents the lowest daily loss rate since 2009, when losses averaged 8,500 bpd.

The coalition attributed the progress to Tantita’s strategic interventions and deep knowledge of the region’s terrain.

Adawari said: “Tantita’s operatives are uniquely equipped to address this challenge. Their efforts have brought about a remarkable turnaround for Nigeria’s upstream oil sector.”

The coalition urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to sustain its backing for Tantita and resist saboteurs seeking to undermine recent gains.

“Continued collaboration between the government and Tantita is essential to eliminating crude oil losses and securing a prosperous future for Nigeria’s oil industry,” Adawari said.
