According to RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram, the man’s capture followed a two-day search launched on Friday, October 10, after two terrified victims approached an officer for help. Both women had received calls from an unknown man promising them work at a restaurant in the Phoenix area.
The suspect arranged to meet them on Fernham Drive in Westham under the pretext of securing them kitchen jobs Balram said. “He then led them on foot to what he claimed was the workplace. Near Gandhi Park he diverted them to a secluded path where he robbed them and sexually assaulted one victim.
Though the women managed to escape and raise the alarm, the suspect initially evaded capture. But on Sunday afternoon eagle-eyed RUSA officers patrolling near Gandhi Park spotted a man matching the victims description neatly dressed and bearing distinctive facial scars.
When questioned the man story quickly unraveled. One of the victims brought to the scene, positively identified him leading to his immediate arrest.
In a chilling confession, the suspect admitted to posing as a recruiter to gain the trust of women. He would collect their contact details by convincing passersby that he was hiring staff and needed numbers for telephonic interviews. He then arranged meetings before luring victims to isolated spots to rob and assault them.
Detectives from the Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit confirmed that the man is linked to multiple rape and robbery cases in Brookdale and Gandhi Park. He had previously served time for sexual assault and robbery and had only been released from prison in May 2025.
The suspect is currently detained at SAPS Phoenix where further charges are being consolidated. His arrest has brought relief to a community terrorized for months by a predator who used promises of work to prey on vulnerability.
