Kidnappers demand ₦15m each for passengers abducted in Edo

The abductors of passengers from an 18-seater New Edo Line bus and a Toyota Camry along the Owan–Auchi Road have reportedly demanded ₦15 million ransom for each victim still in captivity.

The incident occurred on 5 September 2025, when gunmen intercepted the vehicles and forced several passengers into the bush.

Although the Edo State Police Command later rescued 16 of the abducted passengers, others remain in the hands of the kidnappers.

Among those still held is Gloria Ikhaghu, who was returning home after her father’s burial rites in Okpekpe, Etsako East Local Government Area.

A family member, who spoke under condition of anonymity, confirmed that her captors had contacted them with the ransom demand.

“We are begging Governor Monday Okpebholo and everyone to assist in securing Gloria’s release, as we don’t have such money.

“We just finished her father’s burial, and raising ₦15 million is impossible,” the source told Daily Trust.

When contacted, Edo Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, said he was not aware of the ransom demand but assured that security operatives were still combing the forests to rescue the victims.

The Owan–Auchi axis of Edo State has long been notorious for kidnappings and armed attacks.
