PDP Chieftain Chief Olabode George has expressed deep disappointment over Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress, revealing that party leaders had promised him a significant position at the upcoming national convention.
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV, Chief George described his emotional reaction to the defection despite extensive efforts to retain the governor. “I feel really very heartbroken. We convinced him. Many, many people went there, and we were telling him (Mbah), ‘Calm down. The convention is just next month. He will get whatever is sent to the Southeast.’ And the rational discussions, the emphasis—it’s like I was in a very long dream,” he said.

The PDP chieftain revealed that former national secretary Sunday Udeh-Okoye’s defection also came as a surprise. “I never at any time saw it. In fact, when he was brought back as secretary to complete all his assignments, he asked all his people not to attend the meeting. We were wondering what was going on in the Southeast,” Chief George stated.
He expressed frustration that the defections occurred despite the party’s willingness to accommodate southeastern demands. “Okay, now we have settled the matter. The convention dates are fixed, and it’s only a question of time for the convention, and whatever position that the East wants to give to this young man, they would have given it to him. So what is the essence?” Chief George asked.
