    1. The National Council of State, on Thursday, unanimously approved the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan as the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. He succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu, whose decade-long tenure as INEC Chairman ended on Tuesday.

    2. The House of Reps on Thursday mandated committees to investigate the non-functionality of state-owned petroleum refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna despite the use of about $18bn for their rehabilitation in the past two decades. The resolution of the House followed the consideration and adoption of a motion moved by Lagos lawmaker, Oluwaseun Whingan, during a plenary session.

    3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday granted presidential pardon to 175 persons, including Nigeria’s foremost nationalist, Herbert Macaulay and former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Maj.-Gen. Mamman Vatsa (rtd), following the approval of the National Council of State at its meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

    4. Veteran broadcaster and former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, is dead. He was 92. The family announced the elder statesman’s death in a statement on Thursday.

    5. Two lawmakers from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ondo – Hon. Oladiji Oguntudo and Hon. Raymond Oluwatoyin Daodu – have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Oguntudo, who represents Akure South Constituency I, and Daodu, the Deputy Minority Leader representing Akoko South West Constituency I, announced their defection during Thursday’s plenary session of the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure.

    6. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has signed into law the N69bn supplementary budget passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. According to a statement from the Government House Press Unit on Thursday, the signing took place on Wednesday during the October edition of the State Project Delivery Meeting held at Government House, Uyo.

    7. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Thursday said it’s operatives have arrested 12 suspected armed robbers in connection with the violent robbery that led to the deaths of Arise TV journalist Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, at the Unique Apartment in Gishiri village, Katampe District, Abuja.

    8. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said that the choice of who would succeed him in 2027 rests solely with the people of the state, not with political godfathers or entitlement claims. Makinde said this on Thursday in Ibadan while flagging off the zonal stakeholders’ consultative forum and engagement meeting on the 2026 Budget.

    9. The Senate has said that insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria with wanton killings and massive destruction of property was not driven by religion, but by geography and circumstance. The senate has, however, resolved to hold an executive session to deliberate on growing international discussions portraying Nigeria as a country that persecutes Christians.

    10. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has disqualified an aspirant in Ekiti State, Engr Kayode Ojo, from participating in the party’s primary election and gubernatorial race in the state. This announcement was made shortly after Kayode Ojo visited the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, where he was given no reception.
