Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate has been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his recent X post on President Bola Tinubu.

The DSS in a letter dated September 7, described Sowore’s post as false and malicious.

The letter signed by Uwem Davies on behalf of the DSS asked Sowore to retract his statement on X and tender an apology within the space of one week.

On August 26, Sowore in a post on X had described President Tinubu as a criminal.

Sowore’s post followed the president’s statement on the state of corruption in Nigeria during his visit to Brazil.

However reacting to the post, the DSS said Sowore’s comment was “repugnant, derogatory and capable of inciting public disturbance.”

The DSS in its letter mandated the publisher to publish apologies in at least two national dailies and two television stations.

He is also expected to send a representation to the DSS headquarters in Abuja or via email.

Copied in the letter was the United States Embassy in Abuja.

“Persons of your status who are campaigning to lead this country must exercise restraint and responsibility in their speech,” the DSS said.

It also added that it would not hesitate to adopt lawful measures if Sowore failed to comply.
