Nigerian commentator Dele Farotimi has reacted to the chaotic scene that unfolded at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja earlier today, when supporters of party factions were reportedly tear-gassed during the arrival of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
In a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, November 18 2025, Farotimi appeared to draw a parallel between today’s intra-party tensions and a past confrontation involving Naval officer Yerima, writing: “Just one or two Yerima, and area for just calm, Wike for comport himself.”
The reference to Yerima recalls a notable clash between the naval officer and Wike over a landed property. Yerima had denied Wike entry into the property he was tasked to secure, creating a standoff that has since become a reference point for intra-party discipline and tension.
Farotimi’s comment, laced with subtle humor, seemed to suggest that only a strong, decisive figure, or perhaps just a few like Yerima, could bring calm to the currently frayed party dynamics, while subtly urging Wike to exercise restraint.
The PDP has been grappling with internal disputes, and today’s events at the Secretariat, where factions loyal to different leaders clashed, have highlighted the fragile state of the party ahead of critical political engagements.
As party loyalists continue to navigate these tensions, the question remains whether internal discipline could help restore calm to the party machinery. Read Original
