According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, November 3, 2025, former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Supo Ayokunle, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to open direct diplomatic communication with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the increasing killings of Christians across Nigeria.
Ayokunle made this known during an interview on a television program, where he expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation and the growing international attention it has drawn.
He described the ongoing attacks and insecurity in parts of the country as deeply troubling, noting that the crisis should have been addressed long before reaching its current stage.

According to him, Nigeria’s failure to decisively curb the violence has allowed it to escalate, thereby attracting foreign interest and comments from world leaders.
He emphasized that it is time for the Nigerian government to take proactive steps to restore peace and confidence among citizens.
Ayokunle warned that the persistence of insecurity, particularly targeted attacks in some communities, has continued for over fifteen years without an effective solution.
He stated that such a prolonged challenge demands renewed strategy and urgent attention from the government.
The cleric advised that the Federal Government must prioritize dialogue and diplomatic channels to resolve concerns raised by the United States instead of allowing the situation to grow into an international confrontation.
He also stressed the importance of Nigeria seeking assistance through formal requests if the situation demands external support.
According to him, requesting help directly from Washington would show responsibility and respect for national sovereignty, rather than waiting for foreign powers to impose their own form of intervention.
He cautioned that any form of foreign military presence in Nigeria could lead to complications that might undermine the country’s independence.
He said, “We must not wait until the US brings its troops here. Once they come, it will be difficult to send them back. We don’t want another form of imperialism.”
Ayokunle further appealed to President Tinubu to ensure that his administration works closely with security agencies and international partners to strengthen intelligence and protect citizens across all regions.
He expressed hope that with proper engagement and decisive leadership, Nigeria can overcome its current security challenges and maintain its diplomatic integrity on the global stage.
