President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian Armed Forces to confront insurgents and terrorists with renewed determination, warning that their aim is to sabotage his administration’s reform agenda and plunge the country into economic turmoil.

The President’s message comes amid Nigeria’s persistent security crises, ranging from Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgency in the North-East, to mass abductions and banditry in the North-West, separatist tensions in the South-East, and large-scale oil theft in the Niger Delta.

These challenges, according to political analysts, have drained national resources, discouraged investment, disrupted farming activities, and contributed significantly to rising inflation.

Delivering the message on behalf of President Tinubu at the combined passing-out parade of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna on Saturday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged the new officers to see their commissioning as a call to defend the state and its economic lifelines.

The event featured the graduation of cadets from the 72 Regular Course (Army, Navy, and Air Force), Short Service Course, and Branch Commission Course.

In a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Jackson Udom, Akpabio quoted the President as saying:

“I urge you to understand the scale of the threat insurgents and terrorists pose to our national development. Their objective is to destabilise the country, undermine governance, and create parallel systems.”

“You are entrusted with safeguarding the economic integrity and core values of our nation. Despite the enemies’ indiscriminate violence and propaganda, you must remain resolute in protecting Nigeria’s future.”

President Tinubu also commended the NDA for embracing modern technology in its training and research, noting that preparing officers for a new era of warfare, dominated by cyber threats, artificial intelligence, drones, and irregular tactics essential to national defence.

He acknowledged the recent curriculum reforms at the Academy as a critical step in aligning officer training with present-day realities.

The President emphasised that the role of the Armed Forces is more vital than ever, as the stability of the Nigerian state, and its economic recovery—now hinges on their ability to secure farmers, protect vital infrastructure, and maintain trade corridors.

A total of 472 cadets were commissioned into the Nigerian Armed Forces: 218 into the Army, 135 into the Navy, and 119 into the Air Force. Six cadets received special awards for outstanding achievements in academics, military discipline, and extracurricular activities.
