The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Adamu Mohammed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) representing the North-East geopolitical zone, following the retirement of DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya.
In a statement released on Friday, October 17, 2025, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani confirmed the promotion of Commissioner of Police (CP) Abibo Deinma Reuben to the rank of AIG.
The statement also announced that 11 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to Commissioners of Police.
The exercise further saw 13 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) promoted to DCPs, 44 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) advanced to ACPs, and 412 Superintendents of Police (SPs) elevated to CSPs.

Several Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were also confirmed as substantive Superintendents.
Retired DIG and PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers, stressing that promotions come with “higher responsibilities and expectations.”
He urged them to maintain professionalism, integrity, and dedication in their duties.
The PSC described the exercise as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring that key positions are filled with competent officers to meet the country’s evolving security challenges.
