The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Bayo Ojulari, has given update on the ongoing reassessment of the Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna refineries.
Recall that Ojulari had on resumption as NNPC boss shutdown the operation of the Port Harcourt refinery which was initially reopened in November 2024.
He had on assumption to office in April this year declared the closure of the refinery over “planned maintenance and sustainability assessment.”
Ojulari, in a post on his X handle yesterday, gave update on the state of the refinery as well as those in Warri and Kaduna.
As contained in an infographic attached to the post, the refineries are still under ongoing technical and commercial review while also undergoing repurposing to ensure optimal performance and sustainability.
After the completion of this phase, the NNPC eyes the advancement of technical partnerships for the refineries.
This according to the post will include the selection of Technical Equity Partners who have a track record of operating refineries to international standard.
Requisite agreement will also be reached to mobilise towards implement repairs as required.
The NNPC also seeks the optmisation of the refineries’ energy security and asset by ensuring that its capacity meets PIA’s requirements as the suppliers of last resort for petroleum products while also ensuring efficient and profitable operation.
In his remark on the progress of the reassessment, Ojulari declared that the refineries are undergoing repositioning towards a more profitable and transparent energy company.
“We are repositioning as commercially driven, transparent energy company serving Nigerians” He said.
The NNPC boss further expressed optimism on the effective operation of the refineries once reopened.
“We are filled with determination! We are looking ahead with optimism to ensure our refineries operate effectively.
“We are dedicating significant time to a detailed review and are eager to implement our insights. What fuels our drive is the understanding that the prosperity of the Nigerian states and the future success of Nigeria will always take precedence over any individual interests.
