Odinga ran unsuccessfully for Kenya’s presidency five times and was a central figure in the country’s drive toward political reform.
From the 1980s, Odinga opposed single-party rule, advocated for human rights, and endured periods of detention and exile in his pursuit of democratic governance.
Serving as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, he guided Kenya through post-election reconciliation and the adoption of a new constitution. In subsequent years, he pushed for pan-African cooperation and regional integration.
While his legacy is celebrated by many, his long political career was not without controversy, and public perceptions of his impact remain contested.
