INEC Chairman nominee Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), has revealed plans to adopt modern technology, including drones to strengthen election monitoring in Nigeria.
Speaking during his screening before the Senate on Thursday, Amupitan made the disclosure while responding to a question from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who expressed concern over the insecurity and logistical challenges affecting the smooth conduct of elections.
The nominee stressed that addressing election-related security threats would require innovation and closer collaboration with the Joint Committee on Election Security, adding that technology could play a vital role in tackling existing challenges.

He said, “Security is a major challenge, but it can be managed. We must work closely with relevant committees to address threats in difficult areas.
“More investment in logistics and technology, including drones, will help us ensure that election materials reach every part of the country safely.”
Professor Amupitan also identified logistics as another major obstacle, noting that the Commission’s dependence on third-party contractors for the transportation of sensitive election materials often results in delays and compromised outcomes.
He assured that, under his leadership, INEC would prioritise better planning, coordination, and deployment of logistics, while ensuring that any technology adopted in the electoral process promotes transparency, reliability, and public confidence.
