The federal government has commenced a reconciliatory meeting between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and the management of the Dangote refinery.
A PENGASSAN delegation led by Festus Osifo, its president, and some members of the Dangote refinery management, are present at the meeting convened by Mohammed Dingyadi, the minister of labour and employment.
Also present at the meeting is Nkiruka Onyejeocha, minister of state for labour and employment.

On September 26, PENGASSAN said the refinery laid off over 800 workers, noting that the group was working to “resolve” the issue.
The Dangote refinery later confirmed sacking some workers, saying that “only a small number were affected,” describing the move as a reorganisation exercise.
Following the announcement, PENGASSAN urged the management of the refinery “to recall all terminated Nigerian workers”.
On September 27, PENGASSAN instructed its members to embark on a nationwide strike over the dismissal of the workers.
A day after, Dangote refinery said the union’s strike was aimed at weaponising hardship against Nigerians.
Earlier on Monday, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria called on the management of the Dangote refinery to reverse the termination.
