Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has given reason why he relieved all commissioners and public office holders in his administration.
The announcement of the sack was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday evening by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt.
Fubara said the decision followed the recent Supreme Court judgment on the state’s political crisis.
Earlier, the governor held a valedictory session with his cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

He commended the outgoing officials for their contributions to the state’s growth over the past two years.
“Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the state in the last two years.
Furthermore, the governor has relieved all commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” the statement read in part.
Fubara reiterated his commitment to serve the people of Rivers State “with renewed vigour,” while urging Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
The development comes weeks after the exit of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), who governed Rivers during the emergency rule imposed by the presidency.
Upon assumption of office, Ibas had suspended all commissioners, advisers, and assistants appointed by Fubara, and dissolved boards of parastatals.
Since his departure on September 18, uncertainty had surrounded the status of the governor’s appointees.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, at its first sitting after the emergency rule, also asked Fubara to submit a fresh list of commissioner-nominees along with the 2025 budget estimates for screening and approval.
