The Federal Government has cancelled the parade earlier scheduled for Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary on October 1.
The announcement was contained in a statement on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
According to the statement, the cancellation does not diminish the significance of the milestone. The government expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and assured Nigerians that all other programmes for the anniversary would proceed as planned.

“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary. The government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement said.
It added that the Federal Government appreciates the support of Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests, while urging citizens to back President Bola Tinubu’s reforms for national progress.
The parade had been one of the highlights of the celebrations themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The announcement follows the declaration of Wednesday, October 1, as a public holiday to mark the anniversary.
