Nigeria’s female youth national team, Falconets’ captain, Joy Igbokwe has revealed steps being taken by all players in the squad to ensure they beat Rwanda again this Saturday, in the second leg of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier.
Sports247 reports that the Falconets won the first leg 1-0 away in Kigali on Sunday, courtesy of a 70th minute goal by Alaba Olabiyi, but Igbokwe assured that she and her colleagues will not rest on their oars ahead of the upcoming reverse fixture in Ibadan.
Both sides will lock horns again this Saturday at Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba area of Oyo State capital, Ibadan, and Igbokwe disclosed that the Falconets’ players are all determined to record a second victory on the bounce.
The battling midfielder, who hails from Abia State but was born in Jos and grew up in Bukuru, added that she is happy to be skipper of the Nigerian female youth team, which is now being coached by Moses Aduku, and disclosed that all players in the squad are working hard to ensure they overcome Rwanda’s potent obstacle.
Igbokwe, who attended Saint John’s College in Jos and now plays for Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia, affirmed: “I am privileged to be among the national under-20 team.
“My teammates and I, all my colleagues and me, we are all focused on our training sessions. We are putting in all our efforts, because we know so well that Rwanda is a good side.”
She concluded by revealing the factors that led to Sunday’s victory at Kigali-Pele Stadium and enthused that they will this Saturday in Ibadan wrap up their qualification into the next round of the race to Poland 2026.
“We’ve been working very hard through our training sessions, putting our heads together and focusing as a team.
“By the special grace of God, our qualification against Rwanda is going to be a success,” prayed Igbokwe, who admires Super Falcons’ midfield battler, Deborah Abiodun.
