Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad of the Enugu State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped man and recovered his vehicle, alongside a firearm and live ammunition, after a late-night operation that forced the suspects to flee.
The dramatic rescue took place around 11:30 p.m. on October 19, 2025, at the Ozalla/Umueze axis of Nkanu West Local Government Area, following a distress call about the abduction of the victim within the Awkunanaw area of Enugu.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operatives immediately swung into action, trailing the abductors to their hideout. On sighting the advancing officers, the hoodlums abandoned their victim and escaped into the night, leaving behind incriminating evidence.

Recovered from the scene were the victim’s Lexus 350 SUV, a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol, and three live rounds of ammunition, which the kidnappers left behind as they fled.
“The rescue and recoveries followed the operatives’ swift response to a distress call reporting the abduction of the victim within the Awkunanaw area of Enugu. The team pursued the suspects to the mentioned location, where they escaped, abandoning the victim and the recovered exhibits,” the police statement read.
The victim was safely reunited with his family, while a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is currently underway.
Commending the officers for their professionalism and rapid response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ridding Enugu of violent crime.
“The Command will continue to sustain the fight against unrepentant criminals in the State,” CP Giwa said. “We urge residents to remain law-abiding and to assist the Police with credible information that can help us keep Enugu safe.”
The Enugu State Police Command assured the public that it remains on high alert to prevent further criminal activities across the State, promising intensified patrols and tactical operations in flashpoint areas.
