Prof. Piwuna, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has cautioned Vice Chancellors across the country following reports that the Federal Government has directed universities to conduct physical attendance checks amid the ongoing strike.
In a firm statement, the ASUU president reminded university administrators that one of the union’s key demands is the release of revitalisation funds for public universities, funds he said the Vice Chancellors themselves failed to secure.

Prof. Piwuna cautions VCs
The ASUU leader urged the Vice Chancellors to act in the interest of the university system rather than aligning with directives that undermine the union’s struggle for improved funding and working conditions.
He said in part …
“We want the Vice Chancellors to listen very carefully. This strike we have embarked on, one of the key demands is the release of revitalisation funds for public universities. This is funds that they could not fight for. Now we are fighting to make sure that the government releases those funds for them to develop universities, and they want to open registers for us?”
Earlier, it was reported that the Federal Government had directed Vice Chancellors of public universities to commence physical attendance checks for academic staff amid the ongoing ASUU strike. The move is reportedly aimed at monitoring compliance and identifying lecturers who have resumed duties.
