A major protest broke out on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja as angry party members from Ekiti State stormed the premises to demand the reinstatement of Kayode Ojo in the forthcoming governorship primary.
The protesters, mostly women and youth supporters, accused the party’s leadership of deliberately excluding Ojo from the contest to pave the way for the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to emerge as the consensus candidate.
Chanting solidarity songs, they carried placards with inscriptions such as “We Say No to Kayode Ojo’s Disqualification,” “APC Must Let Ekiti People Choose Their Candidate,” “No to Consensus,” and “Ekiti Women Reject BAO.”

“Ekiti says no to Governor Biodun Oyebanji! We want a fair and open primary, not imposition!” one of the protesters shouted as the crowd gathered in front of the ruling party’s national office.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had recently disqualified Kayode Ojo from contesting the October 27 Ekiti governorship primary, a move that many within the party have described as unfair and politically motivated.
The development has deepened tension within the Ekiti APC ahead of the governorship election, which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled for July 20, 2026.
Party insiders said security operatives were quickly deployed around the APC headquarters to prevent the protest from escalating.
As of the time of filing this report, the party’s leadership had yet to respond to the protesters’ demands.
