As PDP Says INEC Letter Was Properly Co-Signed, Rejects Anyanwu Forgery Claim
National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force over the alleged forgery and cloning of his signature in connection with the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025.
In three separate letters dated October 15, 2025, Anyanwu described what he termed a “criminal act” by some PDP leaders, claiming his signature was forged on an official correspondence sent to INEC regarding preparations for the convention. The disputed letter, referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25-140 and dated August 25, 2025, was allegedly transmitted to INEC without his knowledge or authorisation.
“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged or cloned version of my signature on the letter,” Anyanwu stated in his petition. He urged the INEC Chairman, the DSS Director-General, and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter fully and prosecute those responsible for what he described as a “criminal conspiracy” within the party.

Copies of the petitions, sighted byThe Guardian, Not TheNigeriaLawyer were acknowledged by the three agencies between October 15 and 16 and included excerpts of the allegedly forged document as evidence. Anyanwu further revealed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, who chairs the PDP National Convention Organising Committee, had previously approached him to endorse certain communications to INEC a request he declined. “I was surprised to learn later that a letter had been sent out in my name after I refused to act on that request,” he said.
However, the PDP has dismissed the allegations, insisting that the letter sent to INEC was duly co-signed by Anyanwu and the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum. During the 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the issue was raised, prompting the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, to reiterate Anyanwu’s involvement. Notably, when Mohammed publicly stated that “all communication to INEC has been signed by our National Working Committee,” Anyanwu reportedly raised no objection in the presence of party leaders, stakeholders, and INEC observers.
A South-East member of the party’s NEC suggested that Anyanwu’s later forgery claim may have been influenced by external pressures, asserting that all members of the National Working Committee remain united in their resolve to hold the convention in Ibadan. “I can tell you that Anyanwu, who was present at the meeting, remained silent on the matter, which meant that Governor Mohammed’s announcement was a true reflection of what happened. The Secretary must be responding to outside influence,” the source stated.
The development has further heightened tensions within the PDP, already strained by internal disputes and factional rivalries, as the party moves toward its national convention in Ibadan later this month.
