The 2027 presidential ticket access coast is becoming very clear Mr. Peter Obi as former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has declared his willingness to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if a younger, vibrant, and widely acceptable candidate emerges from his political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku made the remarks in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, during activities commemorating Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
According to him, his participation in the 2027 race does not shut the door against others, particularly the youth, whom he urged to seize the opportunity and join the contest in the drive to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.

He said “My being in the race should not discourage anyone, especially the younger ones. If a more vibrant and generally acceptable candidate comes forward, I am ready to step aside and offer full support. Nigeria needs fresh energy and leadership that can bring real change,” he said.
The former Vice President also dismissed insinuations that he was desperate to become Nigeria’s president at all costs. According to him, his political aspiration is motivated by the need to liberate the country from what he described as the grip of those who have held the nation “hostage for too long.”
“It is not desperation, as many claim. I am only interested in ensuring Nigeria’s survival and progress. The country has suffered enough. We must find a way to rescue it, and if the youth come forward with the right candidate, I will give them every support and guidance necessary for success,” he added.
Atiku’s remarks are already sparking reactions in political circles, with observers noting that his statement could be a strategic move to rally younger voters, position himself as a statesman, and maintain relevance in the unfolding political dynamics ahead of 2027.
