ADC spokesperson mocks Tinubu’s govt over fresh World Bank loan plan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has ridiculed President Bola Tinubu over his administration’s fresh plan to secure a $1.75 billion loan from the World Bank.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Abdullahi reminded Nigerians that the President had recently claimed that the country had met its revenue targets and would no longer need to borrow.

“But no sooner had you left the country than some overzealous official announced your government’s plans to borrow another $1.75 billion from the World Bank, thereby making you look like a liar,” he wrote.

Abdullahi also criticised Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for initially opposing new loans but later backtracking.

He suggested the Speaker was more afraid of the President than guided by conscience.

“Obviously, he fears you more than he fears for his conscience,” Abdullahi added.

He concluded his post with a sarcastic jab at the President: “Sorry to disturb you, Sir. Continue to enjoy your well-deserved holidays.”

This comes after Abbas, while addressing the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees conference on Monday, expressed concern that Nigeria’s debt level had reached a critical point and called for urgent reforms in borrowing practices and oversight.
