The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet projected isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall on Monday morning in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States, warning of possible flash floods in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.

For the central region, including Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the agency forecast a cloudy morning with intervals of sunshine, followed by thunderstorms later in the day.

In the south, cloudy skies are expected in the morning with moderate rains over Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, before more widespread rainfall later.

On Tuesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected over the northern states. NiMet said isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains will occur in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa in the morning, while Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba will see more thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

The central region is forecast to experience moderate rains in Kogi, Niger, Kwara, the FCT, and Nasarawa, with thunderstorms later.

In the south, moderate rainfall is expected in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta in the morning, with light to moderate rainfall spreading across the region later in the day.

By Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected in the north, with slim chances of thunderstorms and light rain in Sokoto and Zamfara in the morning.

Later in the day, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto are likely to experience isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.

The central states will see cloudy skies with light rains in the morning, before thunderstorms and moderate rains in the afternoon and evening.

In the south, cloudy skies are forecast in the morning, followed by moderate rainfall as the day progresses.

NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, cautioning of possible flash floods in flood-prone areas. Farmers were urged not to apply fertilisers or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient wash-off.

Residents were encouraged to fasten loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid tall trees during thunderstorms.

The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports to ensure safe flight planning and urged Nigerians to follow its daily updates on www.nimet.gov.ng for timely weather information.
