Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has reiterated his commitment to strengthening grassroots governance by supporting a bill that seeks to grant full autonomy to the state’s local government councils.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.

Governor Yusuf expressed his support while presiding over the 31st Executive Council meeting at the Government House Annex in Kwankwasiyya City, during which the council approved the transmission of the bill to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.

He explained that the proposed law aims to empower all 44 local government councils in Kano with both financial and administrative independence.

“This reform will enable councils to manage their resources directly, execute projects without unnecessary delays, and make decisions that reflect the needs of their communities,” the governor said.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that local government autonomy is crucial for good governance, accountability, and accelerated grassroots development, describing the initiative as a vital step toward deepening democracy in the state.

He also expressed confidence that members of the State House of Assembly would support the bill, noting that it aligns with the overall interests of the people of Kano.
