The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) says it has recovered over N10 billion for consumers who lodged complaints against banks, fintechs, and other service providers.

The commission disclosed this in a statement signed on Thursday by its Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu.

The recoveries, according to the commission, were made between March and August 2025 across major sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Part of the statement read: “The top ten sectors by number of complaints received between March and August 2025 were led by banking (3,173 complaints), followed by fast-moving consumer goods (FCMG) (1,543), fintech (1,442), and electricity (458).

“Other sectors included e-commerce (412), telecommunications (409), retail and wholesale (329), aviation (243), information technology (131), and road transport and logistics (114).”

The FCCPC said the cases ranged from unfair charges, unauthorised deductions, deceptive marketing, service failure, product defects, and lack of timely redress.

It added that a total of 9,091 complaints were resolved within the period.

The FCCPC said banking and fintech remain the most problematic sectors by financial impact, stressing the need for closer regulation with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

It added that electricity billing disputes and service failures highlight the need for stronger collaboration with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and distribution companies (DisCos).

The commission urged businesses to study the data trends and strengthen their internal complaint resolution systems, while encouraging consumers to continue reporting violations through its complaint portal and zonal offices.
