In a dramatic political twist, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging total loyalty to the ruling party and promising to deliver a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Monday in Yenagoa, the state capital, during his formal defection ceremony, Diri assured party leaders and supporters that he would work closely with stakeholders to ensure APC dominates the political landscape of Bayelsa.
I am not a bossy type. I have come to unite us so that we can work together and produce a 99 percent result in Bayelsa come 2027. I don’t know the opposition from the other side,” he said.

The governor expressed confidence that aligning with the APC-led federal government would bring greater development to Bayelsa, adding that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated genuine love for the state.
There is so much we can do together by aligning with the federal government that has shown us the will and direction that they love the people of Bayelsa State. Don’t let anybody deceive you; anybody telling you otherwise is doing so for their own selfish purpose,” Diri stated.
He also dismissed fears of internal divisions within the APC, emphasizing that his defection would strengthen unity and consolidate the party’s base in the state.
