Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his support for the U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to assist Nigeria in fighting terrorism, saying he would back any effort aimed at strengthening the country’s counterterrorism capacity.
Wike stated this while speaking on Channels Television on Monday, November 3, 2025, during an interview where he was asked if Trump genuinely wanted to help Nigeria. “I have said I will support Trump in providing, supporting Nigeria with technology in reducing our fight against terrorism,” he said. “I will support any country that want to provide solution in supporting Nigerian government to fight terrorism. The minister further illustrated the indiscriminate nature of terrorism in Nigeria, particularly in the North-East, where victims cut across different religions and backgrounds. “Take for example, when you go to Borno state, you here bombing in the city or this. Who knows? So so person died. Is he a Christian? Is he a Muslim? Is he a non-believer?” Wike asked.
He went on to recall his personal experience as a government official during the height of Boko Haram’s insurgency. “In 2011, when I was made a minister of state education, I traveled to Maiduguri. I was the first minister over that Boko Haram to go to Maiduguri. I visited a school. immediately I left that school that same day. That school was burn down. The same day, that school was burn down,” he said.
Wike’s remarks come amid reactions to Trump’s recent statement designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and calling for readiness for military action if the Nigerian government fails to act on alleged persecution of Christians.
