Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has congratulated Mohammed Abdulrahman on his emergence as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a new dawn and a fresh opportunity to rebuild the party.
Fayose, who spoke at a press briefing in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, said Abdulrahman’s appointment following the suspension of Umar Damagum signalled hope for the PDP, which he described as having been in a “hopeless situation” under the former chairman.
“The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time. So, I congratulate Abdulrahman, and I want to assure all party members that it is a new beginning,” the former governor said.

Fayose urged the new acting chairman to immediately reposition the party, make necessary corrections at the state chapters, and prepare for the forthcoming national convention.
He noted that the party’s crisis under Damagum mirrored that of former national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, adding that “Damagum will go the way of Ayu.”
According to him, the Damagum-led National Working Committee “had become undertakers, presiding over the burial of the party,” but expressed optimism that Abdulrahman could “turn the table around.”
“There is no hope of PDP coming back for now. Even the captains of our boats are jumping ship. But you never can tell — you can find a doctor in Abdulrahman who is willing to rescue the party,” Fayose said.
He alleged that Damagum’s leadership was marked by incompetence and manipulation, saying, “In the first place, he was not supposed to be the chairman. He only represented an interregnum but manipulated the process to become chairman and caused so much confusion everywhere.”
Fayose appealed to party members to rally behind Abdulrahman and support his efforts to restore stability and unity to the PDP.
“We are happy we have a new acting national chairman who emerged as a result of the confidence reposed in him. I want to assure him of the cooperation of all party members as he works to reposition the PDP and lead it to a new era,” he said.
