High Chief Uchenna Obinwanne Reportedly Abducted in Oyigbo
There are growing suspicions surrounding the alleged kidnapping of High Chief Uchenna Obinwanne by unidentified gunmen, an incident that has sparked serious concern within the Oyigbo community of Rivers State.
According to reliable sources, the event occurred on October 8, 2025, when officers of the Nigeria Police Division in Oyigbo received a distress call from one Mr. David Sabastine, a resident of No. 15 Nzeribe Street, Umusoya, Oyigbo. Mr. Sabastine reportedly informed the police that suspected kidnappers had stormed Oboma and abducted High Chief Obinwanne.

It was further gathered that the victim, High Chief Uchenna Obinwanne, is the uncle of the person believed to be the original target of the attack — Mr. Kennedy Chinedu Obinwanne.
Eyewitness and Family Accounts
Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that the kidnappers arrived at the Obinwanne compound heavily armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons. During the invasion, the assailants reportedly fired several shots before abducting the High Chief.
Family sources disclosed that the incident was violent, leaving several members of the household injured before the kidnappers escaped with their victim. Among those who sustained varying degrees of injury were Madu Obinwanne, Ngozi Obinwanne (his mother), and Mrs. Cecilia Uche.
Aftermath and Investigation
The injured victims were later rushed to a private medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, a police source confirmed that the case has been officially reported and that investigations are ongoing to uncover the identities of the suspects and ensure the safe return of High Chief Uchenna Obinwanne.
