Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has praised Massad Boulos, a senior adviser to US President, Donald Trump, for countering allegations that Christians are being specifically targeted by terrorists in Nigeria.
Boulos, who served as Trump’s Senior Adviser on Arab and African Affairs, addressed the issue in a recent video shared by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
The video was posted on Friday, where Boulos responded to comments from some US politicians, who had claimed that Christians in Nigeria were being persecuted by terrorist groups.
Boulos described the claims as “unfortunate and misleading,” emphasising that terrorism in Nigeria is not driven by religion but by broader insecurity affecting people of all faiths. He explained that Boko Haram and ISIS are responsible for the deaths of more Muslims than Christians in Nigeria.

“Any incident, any loss of life, is absolutely unfortunate. Those who know the terrain well know that terrorism has no colour, no religion, and no tribe. People of all religions and all tribes are dying as a result of terrorist acts. We even know that Boko Haram and ISIS are killing more Muslims than Christians,” Boulos stated.
The senior adviser also addressed clashes between farmers and herders in the Middle Belt, stating that these conflicts were not religiously motivated.
Boulos commended the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu administration, particularly in terms of the ongoing security measures across volatile regions, noting that the recent improvements were showing positive results.
He further praised Nigeria’s long-standing tradition of religious coexistence, describing the country’s diversity as a unifying force rather than a source of division.
“Nigeria is a country in which all sorts of religious, ethnic, and tribal groups have lived together in harmony for centuries. The population is split 50-50 between Christians and Muslims, so this has never been a serious religious issue and should not be,” Boulos added.
Reacting to Boulos’s remarks, Bashir Ahmad took to his handle to commend the US diplomat’s comments. Ahmad emphasised that Boulos’ statement should pave the way for stronger and more coordinated action by Nigerian troops against terrorist and criminal elements operating within the country.
“Good to see senior US officials publicly pushing back against that dangerous Christian genocide narrative. I hope this clearer framing leads to stronger and coordinated action by our troops against those terrorists and other criminal elements,” Ahmad wrote.
