He also emphasized the need for proper maintenance of university facilities to ensure sustainability.
The Dean, Division of Student Affairs, Professor John Odedire, commended the donor for his exceptional generosity and commitment to student development.
”The initial cost projection for this project was far lower than what was eventually spent. The foundation went beyond our expectations, spending more than three times the projected cost to ensure completion,” he said.
He added that the foundation had assured the university of plans to extend similar projects to other student halls of residence.
Speaking at the event, the founder of the Omotayo Adegboye Foundation, Otunba Omotayo John Adegboye, said the gesture was part of his lifelong commitment to supporting educational growth and student welfare.
”Once a student, always a student, our aim is to ensure that this facility is put to proper use and well maintained so that we can be encouraged to do more,” he said.
He also disclosed that the project, originally estimated at ₦6 million, eventually cost close to ₦20 million, adding that the foundation considered the extra cost worthwhile to achieve a quality outcome.
He also mentioned that the foundation had ongoing plans to support other institutions, including Elisha University, where one of his former professors now serves as Vice-Chancellor.
The commissioning ceremony ended with goodwill messages from students and alumni, who lauded the foundation’s contribution to campus life and pledged to maintain the facility for future generations.
