The Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) has condemned the recent killings in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, allegedly carried out by operatives of the Amotekun Corps, describing the incident as “gruesome, barbaric, and unacceptable.”

In a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Waheed Lawal, yesterday, the coalition expressed deep shock and outrage over what it called “an avoidable massacre of innocent citizens,” which reportedly claimed four lives and left several others critically injured.

The group described the killings as “a betrayal of public trust” and “a reflection of the government’s failure to protect its people.”

According to the statement, eyewitnesses revealed that Amotekun operatives opened fire indiscriminately on unarmed residents, including women and children.

“The claim of a so-called gun battle is baseless and deceptive. Amotekun was established to protect communities, not terrorize them,” the OCSC declared.
Blames DSS, Police, and State Government

The coalition accused both the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and the Osun State Police Command of negligence, saying they failed to gather intelligence or act swiftly to prevent the violence.

It also faulted the Osun State Government for its “slow, reactive, and insensitive response,” holding Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration accountable for the security lapse that led to the tragedy.

The coalition outlined a list of urgent demands, including:

    1. Immediate suspension of Amotekun operations in Osun State and prosecution of all involved operatives.

    2. Establishment of a Judicial Panel of Inquiry under the Tribunals of Inquiry Law, Cap 138, Laws of Osun State 2002.

    3. Adequate compensation for victims’ families and survivors.

    4. Public release of investigation findings within seven days.

    5. Comprehensive reforms in the Amotekun Corps to ensure human rights compliance, better training, and community oversight.

While urging residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, the OCSC appealed to the media to continue coverage of the incident and resist censorship.

The coalition also called on national authorities, including the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the National Human Rights Commission, to intervene and ensure transparency.

Comrade Lawal, therefore, note that, “We will not allow this massacre to be buried under politics. Justice must prevail, accountability must be enforced, and human life must be protected.”
