Ugbede Attah, an entrepreneur from Kogi State and Chief Executive Officer of DEATTAH Group, has said that Nigeria remains a country worth building in despite its economic and infrastructural challenges.
Attah, who has established successful ventures in hospitality and real estate, oversees Berlin Hotels and Lounge in Abuja, Circles Restaurant and Fast Food, and Rubytag Properties Limited. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Psychology from Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom, which he says has given him an advantage in business.
“My studies helped me appreciate the complexity of human interactions. In business, understanding your customer is as important as managing operations,” he said.

LOCATED AT “ABUJA, LAGOS, OSUN
After completing his education abroad, he returned to Nigeria and chose to invest in sectors he considered underserved. “I noticed gaps in hospitality and property services in Abuja,” he explained. “People wanted places that combined quality and accessibility. That observation guided my decisions in starting these businesses.”
Berlin Hotels and Lounge was his first major venture. “From the beginning, the idea was to provide a place where people feel welcome,” he said. “It’s about more than rooms; it’s about how people experience the service.”
Circles Restaurant and Fast Food followed, catering to a broad clientele with both local and continental dishes. “It’s important that customers can trust the food, the service, and the environment,” he explained.
Rubytag Properties Limited focuses on real estate development and management. “Property development isn’t just about building structures; it’s about understanding the needs of residents and ensuring practicality in design and location,” he noted.
Attah acknowledged the difficulties of operating in Nigeria but said they are part of the entrepreneurial environment. “Challenges like power inconsistency, regulatory hurdles, and economic fluctuations are part of the landscape. They require flexibility and careful planning,” he said. “Success doesn’t come automatically; it comes from navigating these challenges thoughtfully.”
Reflecting on his journey, he emphasised the importance of long-term strategy. “I’ve learned that long-term planning matters more than quick wins,” he said. “Consistency, clear strategy, and understanding your market are what make a difference.”
He added that he encourages his staff to prioritise sustainable practices. “I tell my teams to focus on building long-term systems rather than reacting impulsively to market trends,” he said.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, Attah advised patience and execution. “Observe the environment, understand your customers, and commit to consistent improvement. Don’t assume that a good idea alone is enough. Execution is what separates businesses that grow from those that don’t.”
Looking ahead, Attah said he plans to expand his businesses while adapting to Nigeria’s broader economic context. “The Nigerian market has its challenges, but it also presents opportunities for careful planning and thoughtful execution,” he said.
He stressed that commitment and adaptation are essential. “Nigeria presents challenges, yes, but it also presents opportunities. You just have to be willing to work hard, plan strategically, and remain committed. That’s how you turn ideas into sustainable businesses,” he said.
