African Democratic Congress (ADC) has given an ultimatum to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, among others to register in their wards before the end of the year or else risk losing membership status.
The Chairman of the Adamawa state party, Shehu Yohanna, clarified that ADC had opened its membership register and that only members with valid membership cards would be counted.
“Let Atiku Abubakar report to his ward in Jada Local Government and register, Babachir report to his ward in Hong Local Government and register. That is the only way that they could be accepted as bonafide members of the party,” Yohanna said.

Adamawa ADC: Only registered members can lead
Yohanna emphasised that no individual was allowed to make decisions on behalf of the ADC unless they were well documented, Vanguard reported.
“You cannot be making party decisions for a party which you are not constitutionally a member of. All of you need to register for the honor of our party. It is illegal for a person to be in leadership in the party at the national level and yet not registered as a member. That brings the party to caricature,” he asserted.
ADC issues directive on coalition members
On Thursday, September 25, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi again reaffirmed the caucus’s decision that all members of the coalition must step down from his or her respective party and join fully with the ADC. The directive was, however, disregarded as unimportant by APC and PDP.
Atiku’s much-touted registration campaign in Jada, which was to take place in August, was last month indefinitely suspended without explanation.
Sources suggest the former Vice President is weighing his chances of clinching the ADC presidential ticket, especially with the rising influence of Peter Obi’s political movement in the party.
ADC confident ahead of 2027 polls
Yohanna disregarded both the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party as not capable of beating the ADC in the 2027 general election, The Cable reported.
“The harsh policies of the present government have provided an opportunity for our party to come into power and take the country towards real democracy,” he said.
Adamawa chapter disputes addressed
Despite allegations of crisis within the ADC’s Adamawa branch, Yohanna maintained that he was still the rightful chairman.
“My term is till 2026 as stated in the party constitution, and no one can impeach me. ADC is not anyone’s inheritance; it is a registered political party by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo,” he stated.
Yohanna proceeded to maintain that ADC governorship aspirants have some of the best qualifications in Adamawa and Nigeria as a whole.
Atiku explains what he will do to Yoruba if elected
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that former vice president Atiku Abubakar stated that the South-West would be central to his policymaking if he is elected president in 2027.
Atiku dismissed the fear that his presidency “might lead to Hausa/Fulani domination over Yoruba or other ethnic groups.”
