The Labour Party has condemned the attack on its National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, at the Benin Airport, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident and for the sponsors of the alleged assailant to be brought to justice.
According to a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, on Saturday, Abure was physically assaulted by Ms Precious Oruche, popularly known as ‘Mama P’, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while boarding a Max Air flight to Benin.
The party said the altercation began in Abuja and continued throughout the flight and upon arrival at the Benin Airport, despite attempts by flight attendants and security officials to restore calm. Security personnel reportedly whisked Abure to safety while the assailant was handed over to the police for questioning.

The statement described Ms Oruche as a content creator and a “prominent member” of the ‘Obidient’ movement, alleging that she boasted of having high-level police contacts and vowed to continue attacking Abure and members of the party’s executive.
“The leadership of the Labour Party is completely troubled with this cyber bullying and the consequences of the action of this political agent on the party,” the statement read. “We sincerely believe that the lady-agent was on an assignment to accomplish the desires of her pay masters.”
The party urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident, identify Ms Oruche’s alleged sponsors and collaborators, and prosecute them. It also appealed to its members to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigation.
